Revolutionary Tech Is Here
Discover 3D live streaming, smart eyewear and more
Ric Edelman: It's Tuesday, June 4th. On today's show, some really cool tech innovations. Let me tell you about volumetric video. It's a fancy phrase for a hologram. It's technology that captures three dimensional spaces in exact dimensions and displays the images as either virtual reality or augmented reality, VR or AR. This is going to be a $6 billion industry by the end of next year. It'll be used in entertainment, sports, and business for everything from conferences to Zoom meetings. One of the biggest areas of growth is in the medical field. Doctors can create three dimensional images of internal organs, helping radiologists detect cancer and helping surgeons figure out exactly how to remove a tumor.
But the biggest area of business growth is in communications. A few companies are already live streaming in 3D. Soon everybody will be doing it. Hey, three years ago, you never heard of Zoom. Imagine where we'll be three years from now. One company in this space is Holotech. Instead of like a Logitech video camera connected to your laptop, you connect a LiDAR camera. You know, like one of those cameras they use on self-driving cars. With this camera and Holotech’s app, you can easily stream high quality holograms over the internet. It's easy as recording a video.
And then there's a company that has a patented vacuum technology. It makes it more efficient to package food and other products. Uses less material, takes up less space. For food, it preserves the shelf life. Which means food lasts longer, and as a result, there's less waste. The company is INTER HOLDINGS. They aim to be improving the ecology as well as the economy.
And how about this? A pair of eyeglasses that automatically and instantly adjusts the focus based on what you're looking at. Look at a newspaper, and then look up at an object far off in the distance. The glasses immediately retain the focus. It's really helpful if you're a hobbyist. You're working on a puzzle, or you're in your woodshop, and suddenly you look up. You now have hands free support.
These are just some of the new products that are on the market right now. It's worth paying attention to new product introductions so you can keep up with the latest. If not for you, then for your parents, and financial advisors, for your clients. One example is the new eyewear from Ray Ban, the Meta Glasses made in conjunction with Facebook. These are really pretty cool. I bought a pair a couple of weeks ago. They're ordinary looking eyeglasses from Ray Ban, that classic look, and they have AI built into it, as well as a camera.
You can just talk to it the way you talk to Alexa or Siri to ask it questions or get information. You can also ask it to tell you what it is you're looking at, and it'll provide more detail. You can simply say, Hey Meta, take a picture... and it'll snap a photograph, you can tell it to take a video. It'll tell you if you get an incoming text, it'll even tell you who the text is from. It'll let you know if there's a phone call. You can make a phone call by simply saying, Call Jean. And it'll dial right up. You can also use it to listen to your music, all hands free, really pretty cool technology.
It's probably a level of success that I would say is iterative. I think the next couple of versions will prove to be a whole lot better, but these eyeglasses are only 300 bucks and it demonstrates how incredible the technology is getting in terms of small size and small expense. You might want to check out the new Meta Glasses from Ray Ban. They're a pretty cool novelty.
